General FAQ

What feeds will this service work with?
If you are looking for a list of sites that this service can work with go ahead and stop. We don't plan on publishing such a thing as there are way too many. But there are two things you can do to test if it will work.
  1. Just go for the gold and try to free the feed using this service.
  2. Try to open the feed in a web browser. If the feed loads without requiring a username and password it will work. If your web browser prompts you for your username and password in a dialog box it will work as well. If you request the feed and a website presents you with a form login, then this service will not work.
What feed readers will this service work with?
This service should work with any feed reader.
Will this service work with Live Journal?
Yes. However, keep in mind that Live Journal doesn't provide a feed for the friends page. You will only be able to subscribe to individual users feeds.
Are my feed URL, username or password stored on the server?
No! For several reasons. The first being that we don't want to take on that responsibility of being liable for securing everyones information. Second, not storing this information keeps the application smaller and lightweight. Third, there is really no reason with having all of that information stored in the alternate URL given to you during the freeing process.
Wait! My feed URL, username and password are all stored in the alternate URL! How is this secure?
Calm down. We have put a lot of thought into this. The feed URL and the username are usually not considered secure information and thus are not really strongly protected. However, the password is encrypted in the URL using a rotating algorithm. Only the lead developer of the application even has full access to the encryption methods.
Are the feeds cached on the server?
No! Again for several reasons. First, that would be a lot of data to store with the number of feeds that are requested from this service daily. Second, I don't want to take on the responsibility of securing everyones feeds.
How can I make the alternate URL shorter?
Checkout Bit.ly.
How can I deactivate a feed?
Because there is no data related to your alternate URL, such as the feed URL, username or password, stored on our servers, there is no deativation process. By simply not using your alternate URL, the feed is effectivly deactivated. If by chance you gave your alternate URL to someone that you don't want to have access to your feed or someone got a hold of your alternate URL I suggest changing the password for your account where the original feed resides.
